Applications

Main Features
High-precision strip edge trimming lines for deburring, chamfering and round-edge finishing of metal strip coils. Built by GLORY MACHINERY strip edge trimming machine manufacturer, available in two-module and four-module configurations.
What Is a Strip Edge Trimming Machine?
A strip edge trimming machine is precision equipment that conditions the edges of metal strip after slitting. When wide coils are slit into narrow strips, the cut edges typically carry burrs, micro-cracks and sharp corners. These defects cause problems in downstream processes: they damage stamping dies, create weld defects, scratch coated surfaces and pose handling hazards. A strip edge trimming machine removes the defective edge zone through controlled cutting, producing clean, consistent edges — a simple deburred edge, a precise chamfer, a smooth rounded edge, or a straight square edge — tailored to the application’s requirements.
GLORY MACHINERY trimmers use modular trimming heads fitted with carbide tools. Depending on configuration, a machine carries two to four trimming modules, each holding multiple cutters. This modular design builds the edge geometry progressively: the first stations perform rough deburring, the middle stations refine the profile, and the final stations produce the finished chamfer or radius. By distributing the cut across several stations, each tool takes a light pass — which extends tool life, improves surface finish and delivers edge quality as fine as R0.04–R0.08 mm smooth chamfer on ultra-thin strip.
Materials and Specification Range
Our strip edge trimming lines process a broad spectrum of metal strip: cold rolled strip, carbon steel strip, stainless steel strip, high-carbon steel and high-tensile steel with tensile strength from 600 up to 1600 N/mm², as well as copper and fully-soft O-temper aluminum alloys 1050/1060. Our strip edge trimming lines cover steel strip widths from 5 mm to 200 mm and thicknesses from 0.02 mm up to 6.0 mm – spanning ultra-thin precision strip for electronics and blade applications through to heavy-gauge coil for structural and automotive parts. Machines come in three sizes: compact units for thin, narrow strip; medium machines rated for strip up to 2.0 mm thick and 50 mm wide; and large four-module lines for strip up to 200 mm wide.
For copper and aluminum, dedicated wide-width trimming machines process strip up to 1300 mm wide and 8 mm thick.
Even very soft, gummy materials such as O-temper aluminum and copper — which are prone to smearing and built-up edge on the cutters — are handled reliably on our lines, where the modular multi-station design distributes the cut into light passes.
Line speeds reach up to 200 m/min on high-speed precision models, while standard configurations run 0–150 m/min under adjustable servo control, so trimming speed can be matched to the upstream slitting line. Coil handling covers inner diameters of 400–500 mm, outer diameters up to φ1200 mm and coil weights from 500 kg to 1000 kg, managed by hydraulic decoilers and recoilers with loading and unloading cars for safe, stable feeding. A fully equipped four-module line carries around 50.5 kW of installed power and can hold up to 24 trimming tools across its stations.
Standalone Trimmer vs. Full Trimming Line
A standalone strip edge trimming machine performs the edge-conditioning operation itself: strip is fed through the trimming modules where burrs are removed and the desired edge profile is formed. This compact setup suits workshops that already own decoiling and recoiling equipment, or that process short lengths, cut pieces and small batches where a full line would be oversized.
A full strip edge trimming line integrates the trimmer into a continuous coil-to-coil system for high-volume production. A typical GLORY MACHINERY line comprises a decoiler with loading car, an S-roll tension unit with dual-servo control that keeps strip tension constant, a pre-leveling module that flattens the strip before trimming, two to four trimming modules, an edge scrap collection system and a recoiler with unloading car. Advanced configurations add dual-stage water cleaning to remove coolant and particles, 360° air/liquid dual cooling that protects tool life at high speed, and a Keyence (Japan) optical width monitoring system for real-time dimensional control. The result is a fully automated process — from raw slit coil to finished precision strip — operated by one technician with two to three assistants.
How to Choose the Right Strip Edge Trimming Machine
Material and hardness. High-tensile and high-carbon steels demand rigid machine frames, powerful spindles and premium carbide tooling. Confirm the machine is rated for your material’s tensile strength — our lines cover 600–1600 N/mm², including stainless and SK4 grades.
Strip dimensions. Match the machine’s width and thickness range to your products. Ultra-thin strip (0.02–0.15 mm thick, 5–10 mm wide) needs a dedicated precision model with fine adjustment; general strip (0.2–2.0 mm thick, 10–180 mm wide) suits standard two- or four-module machines.
Edge quality requirements. Simple deburring needs fewer stations; a controlled chamfer or rounded edge (R0.04–R0.08 mm) calls for three- or four-module machines that shape the edge progressively across multiple light passes.
Production speed. If your slitting or stamping line runs at high speed, choose a trimming line rated 130–200 m/min so that edge conditioning never becomes the bottleneck in your process flow.
Automation and monitoring. For consistent coil-to-coil quality, look for servo tension control, PLC operation with recipe storage, automatic optical width monitoring and integrated scrap collection — features that reduce operator dependence and hold edge tolerance from the first meter to the last.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between deburring, chamfering and a rounded edge?
Deburring removes the burrs and sharp fins left by slitting, leaving a clean square edge. Chamfering cuts a small angled bevel on the edge corner, improving safety and weldability. A rounded edge shapes the corner into a smooth radius — as fine as R0.04–R0.08 mm on our precision models — giving the best fatigue resistance for demanding applications.
What materials can a strip edge trimming machine process?
GLORY MACHINERY trimming lines handle cold rolled strip, carbon steel strip, stainless steel strip, high-carbon steel and high-tensile steel up to 1600 N/mm², as well as copper and fully-soft O-temper aluminum alloys 1050/1060 — all kinds of metal strip within the rated width and thickness range.
What strip width and thickness are supported?
Depending on model: widths from 5 mm to 200 mm, thicknesses from 0.02 mm to 6.0 mm. Ultra-thin models cover 5–10 mm wide, 0.02–0.15 mm thick strip; standard models handle 10–180 mm wide, 0.2–2.0 mm thick coil; large four-module lines cover strip up to 200 mm wide in thicknesses up to 6.0 mm. Dedicated copper/aluminum trimming machines reach 1300 mm wide and 8 mm thick.
How fast can the trimming line run?
Standard models run 0–150 m/min with adjustable servo speed; high-speed precision models reach up to 200 m/min. Actual speed depends on material characteristics and the required edge finish.
How many trimming modules do I need?
Two-module machines suit straightforward deburring and light chamfering. Three-module machines add progressive shaping for better chamfer control. Four-module machines deliver the finest quality — multi-stage deburring, chamfering and rounding — with up to 24 trimming tools for complex profiles or high-volume production.
Does the line monitor strip width automatically?
Yes. High-end four-module lines carry a Keyence (Japan) optical width monitoring system that measures strip width in real time, keeping the trimmed strip within tolerance throughout the coil.
